External Causes of Deseases - COLD

I want to point out some of the possible causes of diseases according to the Chinese Medicine. In general, there are two main causes of imbalance of our vital energy, the external and the internal ones.

EXTERNAL CAUSES can be the pathogenic energies related to the weather (in the forms of heat/fire, cold, dampness, dryness and wind) and the food intoxications or accidents.

INTERNAL CAUSES can be psychological or emotional (anger, joy, worries, fear, sadness), the excesses of daily life and inherited deficiencies.

It may sound strange to state that the weather can bring pathogenic energies. I will analyse the example of the energy of COLD, as we are approaching that time of the year when we suffer the consequences of cold weather with more intensity.

Cold is Yin and will affect the Yang part of our vital energy. A very cold day during the summer season or an extremely cold spell during winter can be considered pathogenic and, if our Defensive energy (that has a Yang characteristic) is not strong enough, the pathogenic external cold can invade our energetic system.

The accumulation of excess cold in our system will cause obstruction in the energy channels and blood vessels slowing down their circulation, and some of the consequences may be chilliness, aversion of cold with desire of warmth but difficulty in warming up, abdominal pain that is worse with pressure, abundant urination, painful contraction of muscles, painful joints or rheumatic pain.

An Acupuncturist is trained to recognise all the signs of an attack of pathogenic energy and to treat the different consequences of such attacks.

The most common consequences of external cold invasion are the painful syndromes and rheumatism. Cold is treated by application of heat to re-invigorate the circulation and disperse the stagnated energy. Needles, moxa and massage are the main instruments of the Acupuncturist and more recently here in England, we are able to use a Chinese heating lamp that is also very effective.
TDP LAMP - This lamp has an interesting history.

In the 70's the workers of an old ceramic factory in central China attracted the attention of the government scientists. A new director had been appointed to that factory and he became concerned as soon as he realised the extremely bad working conditions of the old factory, with the workers standing much of the day in damp cold mud. He worried that the workers would suffer with arthritis and other related health problems due to standing long hours on that damp floor. However he was intrigued to find out that, despite all that, there was not one single case of arthritis ever amongst the workers of that factory even in the past and that their health was relatively better than that of the people living in the area but not working there.

Impressed with his findings, the director asked the government to find out what was the cause of that interesting situation and experiments were carried out. At the kiln area scientists detected an infrared radiation emitted with a wavelength range of 2 to 25 micrometers and determined that that radiation was coming from a black clay deposit on the conveyor belt that was heated by the ceramics kiln to 400 degrees, causing the emission of the non-visible electromagnetic spectrum. The clay was then analysed and found to contain 33 different trace elements in 43 biologically necessary for the human body.

Later developments of the researches by scientists all over China led to the creation of a heated lamp made from the black clay material. Chongqing Silicate Research Institute headed by Mr. Gou Wenbin in 1985 then invented the TDP lamp. The term TDP Lamp is an abbreviation for Teding Diancibo Pu, which translates to "special electromagnetic spectrum" lamp.

In China, people refer to the TDP lamp as the "Miracle Lamp" due to its incredible success in treating chronic ailments. I have tried this heat-lamp treatment and had very good results when I had back pain, and recently I have started to offer treatment with this lamp at my new address at Sherwood House, 9 West Street, Congleton.
