The Vision
In March 2001, in Afghanistan, the Taliban destroyed
the Buddhist statues at Bamiyan. The statues,
one 53 metres high, cut into the sandstone rock
were created in the 5 th century and were a symbol of
the mergence of Eastern and Western culture.
On the other side of the world in Brazil, a renowned
Buddhist Monk, GUSTAVO PINTO, while meditating
on the destruction of the statues saw the tallest
statue being rebuilt twice its original height. This
inspiration is now becoming reality. Gustavo has
found the location of his vision in the centre of
Brazil. The land has been purchased and everything
is ready for the next stage, to build the Buddha and
create the Land of Peace.

The Host:
The ABSOLUTE symbolised in a 108 metre high statue of the
Buddha - invites the different religions of the world to hold a dialogue.
The Buddha will be a beacon of light , which will draw people from all over the world
to see and experience. Around the Buddha will be temples and visitor facilities.
Yet this initiative is not limited to, or centred on recuperating this work of art. The Land of Peace intends this Buddha to be guardian of a centre of ecumenical education where
leaders of different religions can share common values and construct an example of
respect and harmony between religions that the world needs today.
